A pleasing pattern does not establish that a textile suits a particular purpose. Ask what the specific product is designed for and whether there are any use limitations.

For a particular table or display area, measure the space and request the real product dimensions. Objects in a photograph are not a reliable scale because perspective changes their apparent proportions.

Work with colours the recipient already owns

Choose a main colour that complements existing furniture or accessories. A strong pattern can be a focal point; a busy room may suit something quieter. If uncertain, involve the recipient before choosing.

• Confirm fibre content and actual dimensions.
• Ask about washing, ironing and colour separation.
• Check edges and stitching.
• Confirm that the required pattern is available in the full quantity.
